Fifteen people are now homeless after a massive fire this afternoon destroyed their seven-bedroom house on Lyndhurst Road in St Andrew.

The fiery inferno had threatened adjoining properties including shops and business places.

However, it was brought under control by personnel from the York Park, Trench Town and Rollington Town fire stations.

The 15 occupants of the board house saved a few of their belongings.

Beds, refrigerators and a television set were among the items rescued from the blaze.

Assistant Superintendent of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Dennis Lyon, says the brigade was called to the fire minutes after one o’clock.

He said when the firemen arrived, the house was already destroyed but they managed to control the blaze in 10 minutes.

Assistant Superintendent Lyon says investigations will begin after that activity is through.
