Health Ministry gets hand sanitizers and dispensers to help with infection control

Jamaica has received 175 hand sanitizers and dispensers to help with infection control in health facilities.

The items were handed over by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

The Ministry says the hand sanitizers and dispensers will be distributed to the Regional Health Authorities as part of their infection control initiatives.

And the Ministry says it has also received other items such as desktop and laptop computers, refrigerators and education material for the immunization programme.

Health Minister, Horace Dalley, expressed thanks to PAHO for its continued support to Jamaica and the country’s public health sector.

The donation from the international agency comes as the health ministry continues to improve infection control in public health facilities.

Recently, the ministry came under heavy criticism following news of infection outbreaks in newborn units at two of the island’s major hospital.

It reported that more than 40 newborn babies were infected and 19 babies died.
