Located along the Spanish Town bypass in St Catherine is an epicurean oasis with a down-to-earth name, Ah It Man, that has been tantalising the taste buds of its growing clientèle.

The well-appointed food stop, located about 50 metres from the Food For The Poor, has delightful décor despite its hard exterior.

“Although externally the customers see two containers upon entry, the décor comes alive. It’s designed to make dining a pleasure,” proprietor Michelle Garvey told Food.

The culinary fare includes lobster, curried goat, jerked chicken, jerk pork, oxtail, and chicken soup. Dishes are accompanied by servings of Spanish rice, rice and peas, or boiled ground provisions.

Besides the well-stocked bar, Ah It Man also has an array of wines and spirits.

“We do daiquiris, mudslides, screwdrivers, Martinis, iced teas, and a host of desserts mostly done to order. Just ask and you are served,” said Nashekea Johnson.

Private cooking for special guests is an attraction that will soon be available.

“We go all out to make our customers enjoy the services here, as that helps them to return,” Garvey said.

Garvey, an alumna of Spanish Town High School, said that she was driven by ambitions to complete her degree, graduating with first-class honours.

The restaurant, bar and grill, which opened its doors two years ago amid the coronavirus outbreak, has remained resilient in a period that has seen a national slump in sales, but robust economic recovery has caused several indicators to return to pre-pandemic levels.

And customers continue to give the restaurant a vote of confidence by opening their pocketbooks.

“I have started to eat here about one year now. I am given good customer service,” Barbara Phipps, a patron, said.

“The food here is freshly prepared, it is very tasty, and I am very pleased with the price range.”

Ah It Man opens seven days per week and is a venue for parties, receptions, baby showers, receptions, and other social events.
