Molynes climb out of relegation, Arnett go top
MOLYNES UNITED climbed out of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) relegation zone with a 2-1 win over Racing United at the Anthony Spaulding Complex yesterday.
Goals from Jason Wright (39th) and Jeremy Nelson (59th) saw the Jermaine Thomas-coached team come from behind after Andre Campbell (25th) gave Racing the lead.
After leading his team to back-to-back wins and out of the bottom two, Thomas said it was not time to get complacent.
“I thought we played well. We have been working on some things for the past couple of weeks and seeing them repeat it was very pleasing,” he said.
Racing nearly broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute but Heron Headman’s brilliant strike from an angle was parried for a corner.
Racing took the lead in the 25th minute when Campbell broke behind the defence and eluded the goalkeeper, before somehow squeezing the ball inside the near post after the chance seemed to have passed.
Jason Wright should have equalised in the 38th minute but he steered a cross wide from six yards.
The diminutive striker would get his goal a few minutes later when he fired home a loose ball from a free kick.
Molynes controlled the game after that, keeping their opponents pinned in their half, but could not make their dominance count.
Racing had two great chances five minutes into the second half but could not capitalise.
They would pay for that.
Molynes went in front when Livingston’s miscued shot fell perfectly for Nelson to tap home from six yards.
Ranaldo Biggs came closest for Racing, curling wide after cutting inside at the top of the box. But Molynes came right back and had a series of chances, the best of which Livingston blasted over from six yards.
Although Racing showed a lot of purpose in their effort to get an equaliser, it was not to be with Molynes seemingly always in control.
“A loss like this is unacceptable. We scored very early in the game and then start to sit back and give the opponents a chance to come into the game and they came into the game and took all three points,” said Racing assistant coach, Paul Walker.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Arnett Gardens got by Vere United 2-0.
That result sees Arnett join Waterhouse at the top of the table on 21 points, while Vere are just above the relegation zone on nine.
Molynes are in 11th place on 10 points
