Follow Mandeville's lead on water supply

An essential feature of houses in Mandeville and its environs are the prominent two or three 400- and 600-gallon water tanks. And, whereas water tanks are usually installed discreetly at residences in Kingston and St Andrew, in Mandeville, they are the ubiquitous sight at every home.
Households of the well-populated Manchester capital are hardly ever out of water because of the system of delivery implemented by the National Water Commission (NWC).
Water is delivered nightly to a different part of town to recharge the householder tanks but is locked off during the daytime. For example, in the Berwick area, water flows through the NWC's water main three nights per week, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Other sections of town will have their specific three alternate nights of water delivery.
It not only instills conservation but ensures a reliable supply of water supply to Mandeville, as the NWC storage is replenished each day. Such a water-delivery system should systematically be implemented in the Kingston Metropolitan Area and Portmore in the effort to rationalise water delivery and the use of this increasingly scarce commodity.
