Letter of the Day | Seriously, PM? PNP tief more?

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am really beginning to wonder if Andrew Holness is serious about governance and stemming corruption in Jamaica.
When Mr Holness was sworn in as prime minister, he promised that he would be new and different, demanding transparency and accountability.
Mr Holness, when he travelled to Lima, Peru, for the Summit of the Americas earlier this year, said that Jamaica was still committed to combating corruption.
However, I am wondering if Mr Holness is really serious, because in response to Opposition Leader Peter Phillips chiding him about the corruption now plaguing the Labour Party administration, one is left to infer that Mr Holness basically said it's all right, the only difference is that you 'tief' more than us.
What kind of country is this? What kind of governance is this? When will Mr Holness stop being a demagogue and realise that there can only be one government at a time, and at this time, it's the Jamaica Labour Party.
By his response, Mr Holness is saying, don't mind that there are allegations of corruption at state agencies such as National Energy Solutions and the Universal Service Fund, because you all misappropriated funds when you were in power.
The only thing new and different is that they have found new and different ways to foster, encourage and benefit from corruption.
