In recognition of Isis Clarke-Reid

THE EDITOR, Madam:
The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) salutes Isis Clarke-Reid on the occasion of her 100th birthday (November 18) and applauds her trailblazing Jamaica’s record in track and field.
The 1938 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Panama marked her advent at regional games and she achieved this at the age of 19. She competed in the 100m and 200m as well as the hurdles, and earned a bronze medal in the Women’s 4 x100m relay.
During the tumultuous years of World War II, the Games were not held but she returned on the renewal thereof in 1946 in Barranquilla, Columbia, to earn a silver medal in the 4 x100m relay.
We have counted one hundred years of her life but countless are her feats and immeasurable is the inspiration from which Jamaica and generations of our athletes have benefited.
We are in her debt for the unqualified investment of time, energy, commitment and love for country she made under arduous circumstances so as to enable us to be the beneficiaries of a legacy that continues to be impactful.
Isis Clarke-Reid – a Jamaican trailblazer in sport, a respected daughter of the soil, and an exemplar of excellence.
