We are not in league with gunmen

THE EDITOR, Madam:

In response to an article published in The Gleaner of Tuesday March 17. I, on behalf of the members of the Jamaica Association of Certified Embalmers and Funeral Directors (JACE&FD), wish to disassociate us from such article.

We regard same as insensitive, irresponsible, and an attempt to bring the funeral industry, which is a dignified profession, into disrepute.

I must also assure Mr Fabian Lewis (his letter to you was published in The Gleaner on March 21), and the public at large, that JACE&FD is in no way in league with gunmen.

Neither do we associate ourselves with some relatives of deceased persons, policemen and women, hospital morgue employees, nurses, and nursing homes that “sell” human remains to some funeral services providers for a price.

Members of our association are trained and certified professionals, some of whom have been serving in this noble profession for upwards of 90 years.
