Each student learns differently

THE EDITOR, Madam:

DUE TO the recent outbreak of the coronavirus, many institutions have resorted to the online method of teaching. In today’s world, technology plays a vital role and is heavily utilised for the completion of various tasks. However, with the implementation of virtual teaching, some students are faced with a challenge, or, more so, challenges.

Despite technological advancement, not all students are privileged to have Internet access at home. Individuals living in rural areas are unable to have ready access to resources, as the telecommunications companies do not supply access in some areas.

This may lead to the affected students frequently purchasing data in order to stay afloat with the happenings in their studies. Based on their usage, it may diminish quickly and, as a result, they are often absent from class sessions, placing them at a huge disadvantage.

Therefore, I am imploring the institutions to exercise their discretion in the matter; to contemplate on these challenges as they fine-tune this new approach to delivering courses.
