THE EDITOR, Madam:

The quashing by the UK -based Privy Council in regards to Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer and other co-accused murder conviction comes at an important junction in Jamaica’s history of abuse of justice. Indeed, it is a moment of test for the Jamaican justice system.

The way the trial was handled in the local court mirrors the approach in how our government hurriedly places bills before the House of Representatives and uses their majority to rubber stamp them as laws while ignoring the Opposition or providing opportunities for engagement via the parish municipalities through elected councillors to get the opinion of the people in the divisions.

It is also linked to how we mistreat vulnerable persons, especially prisoners, in particular, those with mental challenges.

When a nation loses its sense of justice, it evolves into barbaric behaviour because its humanity has diminished. Time come, wake up for justice!
