Bullock-DuCasse warns against doctors discussing patients' medical condition publicly

Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the Ministry of Health, Dr Marion Bullock-DuCasse is warning against what she says is the worrying trend of health practitioners publicly discussing the medical condition of individuals.

During a recent JIS Think Tank she warned that the practice is unacceptable and unethical.

And she says members of the public also need to be aware that some of the demands that are made of the Ministry regarding individual cases cannot be met. 
 
Ducasse says medical practitioners are not able to comment on any individual’s personal signs and symptoms, complications or even death.

And she says while the ministry has to share information it cannot breach confidentiality.

She adds that medical records must be kept and held in the highest and utmost confidentiality at all times.

Ducasse notes that people want to be assured that after visiting their health team member their personal medical information is not discussed within the health centre or in the public.
