Thieves slaughter two pregnant cows in St Catherine, warning issued

The Praedial Larceny Prevention Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force is reminding members of the public to be mindful of the meat they consume.
The warning follows the recent slaughter of two pregnant cows on a farm in Riversdale, St Catherine by thieves.
Head of the Praedial Larceny Unit Deputy Superintendent, Kevin Francis says no heifer or pregnant animal should be slaughtered unless inspected by a registered veterinary surgeon.
He says the Public Health Inspector would also have to provide certification that the animal is fit for human consumption.
The policeman says slaughtering such animals without certification constitutes a breach of the Livestock Control Order (1973) and the Public Health Act.
DSP Francis says there are serious public health concerns for persons who eat meat that is unfit for human consumption.
And he says based on information received the animals were transported in unsanitary conditions.
He warns that this poses grave health risks for members of the public.
