Footprints: Lance Linton - Music was his passion

If you visited the St Elizabeth community of Fyffes Pen, you would have been greeted with sounds of old hit music. Specifically coming from the Linton's premises.

Lance Lebert Linton enjoyed playing his music and his community members shared the desire with him as they enjoyed listening to him play.

Born on February 23, 1932 in Crawford, St Elizabeth, Lance grew up to be a quiet but serious individual.

He enjoyed fishing and playing music.

He married Audrey Linton, who predeceased him in 1989.

Lance had four siblings - two brothers and two sisters. But his family was a large one as he had 10 children - Benny, Joy, Garfield, Courtney, Michelle, Wayne, Lebern, Stephanie, Wendy and Maria - who later made him into a grandfather.

Lance, at age 83, cared for 37 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lance was a fisherman, a barber, a mechanic and a musician.

"Papa would fix everybody's bike. If anyone had bike trouble, they would come to him," Maria recalled.

"My father also played the guitar at the Moravian Church," Maria continued.

Lance Lebert Linton died on September 1, leaving behind family, a host of relatives and friends. A thanksgiving service will be held on September 26 at the Dober Moravian Church in St Elizabeth where his family, friends and well wishers will gather at 11 a.m. to say their last good bye.

Lance lived a good life. He was a father, a husband, a son, a brother and a friend. He will be missed.
