Footprints: Myrtle Webster - Devout servant of God

Myrtle Elizabeth Webster, affectionately called 'Sister Webster', 'Miss Merks' and 'Mama' was born in Williamsrfield, St James, on September 7, 1927.

She was one of five children born to Mulvina and Simeon Campbell. She went to Salters Hill Elementary School, whereafter she worked with the Public Works Department and the Gloucestershire House hotel and other hotels for several years.

Myrtle had four children - Hazel, Labelle, Russell and Kathleen.

In 1965 she became a Christian, having been converted while listening to Pastor Fuller on the radio.

She met Frank Webster in the same year at Faith Temple Assembly of God in Montego Bay and in 1966 they were married. The couple made their home at 18 Range Crescent, Norman Gardens, Kingston where they lived for more than 30 years and had two children - Andrea and Stephen.

Myrtle loved the Lord with all her heart. She served Him devoutly, ministering and witnessing in the name of Jesus for the remainder of her life.

She would conduct prayer meetings and Sunday school from her living room and back veranda for those who would come. Throughout her life, she ministered in several areas; evangelism, street ministry, deliverance and in prayer. She was constantly interceding for Christians all over the world and for the challenges they faced.

Myrtle gave her wealth to others, took young people into her home and cared for those who were unable to do so for themselves. There were 13 youth, living at her home on Range Crescent at one point, not all were her own biological children, but spiritually,. they were her family. She was generous in feeding her neighbours and friends and gave of herself as the Lord had given to her.

Her favourite words were "when men on Earth have done their best, angels in Heaven can do no better".

May we live by her example and give to others freely. May we continue in her legacy.

Myrtle leaves behind six children, 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sons and grandsons-in-law.
