Massage parlour case committed to Circuit Court

The case against embattled attorney Lennox Gayle and several co-defendants who were arrested in 2014 in connection with a massage parlour scandal, has been committed to the St James Circuit Court for hearing on Monday September 19.

Gayle and three of his co-defendants - Kadian Grey, Sheline Reid, and Shanique Fennell - were given fresh offers of bail when they appeared in the St James Parish Court before Presiding Magistrate Natalie Hart-Hines yesterday. Gayle was offered bail in the sum of $700,000 with three sureties, while the three women were each offered $150,000 bail with three sureties.

A warrant was issued for another co-defendant, Nyoka Jolly, who did not appear in court. In the meantime, clerk of the court Yanique Henry lamented that the case had been put off on several previous occasions due to the absence of some of the defendants from court.

"On almost every occasion this matter comes before the court, someone is absent," Henry opined to Hart-Hines.

"That is why the warrant needs to go out. There is no reason for persons not to show up on a day like today when the matter is set for hearing," Hart-Hines replied.

Gayle, who is represented by attorney Churchill Neita, is accused of false and misleading conduct in relation to reports that he was running a massage parlour in Montego Bay, where prostitution was alleged to be taking place. Gayle was arrested on April 16, 2014, and he and co-defendants Grey, Reid, Fennell, and Jolly were subsequently charged, along with other persons.
