Japanese gov't funds expansion at schools in St Mary, St Thomas

The Government of Japan has provided grants totalling J$24 million to expand the Highgate Primary and Junior High School in St Mary and the Middleton Primary School in St Thomas.
Highgate Primary and Junior High is to be allocated J$14 million to finance the construction of two additional classrooms that is expected to ease the problem of overcrowding at the institution.
The remaining J$10 million will be used to finance the construction of a new canteen and food-storage area at Middleton Primary School.
The announcement was made last Thursday during the official signing ceremony between Education Minister Ruel Reid and Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica Masanori Nakano.
