Mario Deane died after being beaten at the Barnett Street Police Station on August 3, 2014.

High Court Justice Vivienne Harris is to make a ruling on July 18 on how to proceed against Damion Cargill, one of the three inmates charged with murder in relation to the 2014 death of Mario Deane.

Cargill is a deaf-mute and at a special hearing it was determined that he was unfit to enter a plea.

The case was called up today but the court was told that the probation officer in charge of the matter was ill.

The matter was then rescheduled to July 18.

The court can order that Cargill be placed under special supervision or remanded to police custody.

Cargill was charged along with fellow inmates Marvin Orr and Adrian Morgan on allegations that they had beaten Mario Deane while they were all in custody at the Barnett Street Police Station in St James.

The alleged beating happened on August 3, 2014.

Deane died at the Cornwall Regional Hospital three days later.
