Sergeant on drug charges gets $5m bail, accomplices on $2m bond

The Westmoreland police sergeant held in his uniform in a late-night Hanover drug bust has been granted bail in the sum of $5 million.
Forty-four-year-old Christopher McDaniel was offered bail when he appeared in the Hanover Parish Court on Friday before Parish Judge Sheron Barnes.
He is charged jointly with 33-year-old Ronald Dell and 20-year-old Tyee Kameka for several offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Dell, a merchandiser, and Kameka have each been granted bail in the sum of $2 million.
Attorney-at-law Leonard Green who represented McDaniel, said up to now, the cop had "an unblemished record" of 25 years in the Jamaica Constabulary Force and acted as a sub officer at several police stations in Westmoreland.
Dell is represented by Kimarly Brydson while Kameka is represented by Sheldon Campbell.
The three were held with 2,522 pounds of ganja worth $20 million on July 13.
The drug was packaged in 461 parcels in 48 knitted bags.
The ganja was in the back of an Isuzu refrigeration truck being driven by the uniformed sergeant.
McDaniel, Dell and Kameka are to return to court on September 12.
