National Bakery

We don't have the space on these pages to talk about all the firsts achieved by National Bakery. The iconic company has been a pioneer of the local baking industry for several decades. But, perhaps the most major moment was when National Bakery introduced sliced bread to Jamaica. As good as sliced bread? Turns out it was only the start of many Jamaican firsts for an authentically Jamaican company.

Excelsior Water Crackers

If you don't enjoy a good Jamaican snack that includes Excelsior Water Crackers, your 'Jamaicaness' may be called into question. This advertisement that appeared in The Gleaner of September 28, 1911 signalled the arrival of what would become a bona fide Jamaican dietary staple. Steam fish and crackers, crackers and cheese, whatever you like.
