Georgia Waugh Richards installed as new JTA president

School principal Georgia Waugh Richards has been installed as the 53rd president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA).

Waugh Richards, the principal of the Harmons Primary and Infant School in Manchester, is the eleventh female JTA president.

She was sworn in last night during an investiture ceremony on day one of the JTA's 53rd annual conference at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay, St James.

A graduate of Manchester High School and the Mico Teachers’ College, Waugh Richards has served as an educator for 29 years in posts such as a lecturer and internal assessor at the Catholic College of Mandeville between 2002 and 2008.

She has also served the JTA as vice-chairman of the National Primary Principals’ Association since 2013.

Waugh Richards was a recipient of the JTA’s WBC Ben Hawthorne Award in 2011, and the Jamaica Teaching Council Carlong Publishers Outstanding Principal Award in 2012.

She takes over from Howard Isaacs.
