Judith Pusey among six sworn in as Supreme Court judges

Chief Justice Zaila McCalla says newly-appointed acting puisne judge Judith Pusey has given yeoman service in the overburdened parish courts of Jamaica. 

“The Judicial Services Commission has recommended that she be afforded an opportunity to serve at a higher level in our justice system,” McCalla said. 

She was speaking this morning during the swearing-in ceremony, held at King’s House, for Pusey and six other persons to serve at the Supreme Court. 

The other persons sworn in to act as puisne judges are Simone Wolfe-Reece, a Senior Parish Judge and daughter of former chief justice Lensley Wolfe, and Ann-Marie Nemphard, also a Senior Parish Court Judge. 

Three acting puisne judges were confirmed in their positions. They are Carolyn Tie, Stephanie Jackson-Haisley and Sonya Wint-Blair. Senior Parish Court judge Natalie Hart-Hines was appointed to act as Master-in-Chambers. 

Tie, who spoke on behalf of the newly-appointed judges, said it was “frightening” that no males were among their numbers. “I urge more male attorneys to give consideration to serving on the bench,” she urged.
