Attorney Patrick Bailey freed of fraud charge

Prominent attorney Patrick Bailey has been freed of fraud-related charges.

Bailey was acquitted of conspiracy to defraud in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court a short time ago after Parish Judge Tara Carr ruled that there was no case for him to answer and upheld a no-case submission by his legal team of Garth McBean, Pierre Rogers, and Carolyn Reid Cameron.

McBean says Carr, in handing down her decision, said there was no evidence of any conspiracy by Bailey and that the evidence of the complainant has been shattered beyond repair.

Bailey was arrested and charged after Stafford Dixon, an elderly St Catherine man, complained to police investigators that he hired the well-known attorney to handle a land transaction and joint venture housing development.

However, according to the allegations, the project failed and Bailey forged a transfer certificate that caused Dixon to lose his 22-acre property and having to pay his prospective business partners over $28 million.

But, McBean explained that evidence presented during the trial showed that Dixon did not lose his property, but was a shareholder in the company to which it was transferred.

“Not only that, there was no evidence of any conspiracy,” he insisted.
