The Ministry of Tourism has activated its Tourism Emergency Operations Centre (TEOC) at the Jamaica Pegasus in Kingston in preparation for Hurricane Beryl, which is expected to impact Jamaica on Wednesday.

According to a media release from the Ministry earlier today, the TEOC is focused on several preparedness activities. These include ensuring that hotels, Airbnbs, and tourism attractions follow comprehensive hurricane preparedness plans.

Hotels, Airbnbs, and attractions are expected to stock up on emergency supplies, secure their facilities to minimise potential damage, implement evacuation plans where necessary, and ensure that emergency contact information is readily available.

Jamaica's tourism minister, Edmund Bartlett, who convened several urgent strategy meetings since Sunday with the Policy and Planning Group and other key members of the industry, has underscored that the TEOC team will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed.

“The team will also maintain contact with our tourism partners, including airlines and cruise lines. I urge all tourism stakeholders to remain vigilant and to follow all safety guidelines to ensure the protection of life and property,” he said.
