EDISON (Dane Nelson) heads to the winners’ enclosure after capturing yesterday’s third race at Caymanas Park. It was the second of three winners for the champion jockey.

Champion jockey Dane Nelson highlighted yesterday's nine-race programme at Caymanas Park with a hat-trick of wins, including 10-1 chance EDISON in the 3-y-o and up overnight allowance feature over 1500 metres.

His other winners, all in a row, were JESSIE JAMES, at 7-2 for trainer Ryan Darby in the second race over 1400 metres, and CHANGE HIM NAME, at 3-1 for trainer Fitzgerald Richards in the fourth over 1100 metres.

Nelson, champion jockey for the past two years, rode all three from off the pace to collar the leaders in the last furlong for decisive victories.

easy victory

The Richard Azan-trained 6-y-o gelding EDISON, best known as a sprinter, showed his new-found appreciation for middle distances with an easy victory in the third race, covering the distance (1500m) in the fairly good time of 1:32.2.

EDISON was produced on the rails a furlong out, sweeping past long-time leader HOLOGRAM SHADOW to win going away. HOLOGRAM SHADOW passed the post in second, but was later disqualified.

TIMEFORARMS, 3-5 favourite

Having finished third to ALL CORRECT over a mile in open allowance last Sunday, it was surprising that EDISON, now dropped in class, was despised to the tune of 10-1, as the betting made TIMEFORARMS a howling 3-5 favourite.

With this three-timer, Nelson has taken over sole leadership from Omar Walker in the jockeys' standings with 29 winners - two clear of Shane Ellis, who rode two winners in WILLIE GOLDSMITH and LADY SHANKARI for owners W.B. Racing, with long-time leader Walker relegated to third with 26.
