Trainer Nunes banking on Bigdaddykool

Having won the Derby, Superstakes, Lotto Classic and St, Leger, trainer Anthony 'Baba' Nunes is enjoying a fantastic season. But as things now stand, he is hoping to put the icing on the cake on Saturday, by winning the $13.9 million Diamond Mile with leading 'Horse of the Year' contender BIGDADDYKOOL.

With Nunes, thanks to a triple last Saturday, trailing 15-time champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta by $7.2 million going into the meet, victory for the recent Superstakes winner BIGDADDYKOOL in this super rich event, sponsored by Supreme Ventures Limited, could chart a course for him to catch DaCosta and win his first trainer's title.

With six racedays remaining in 2016, DaCosta leads the standings $48,389 million, while Nunes is a clear second with $40,905.800.

"Bigdaddykool has improved considerably, not only winning the Superstakes, but the Lotto Classic and St. Leger while finishing second in the derby.

"He has the big race credentials and while his best races have come over two turns, I don't think he will find a mile too short, especially with a fast, early pace expected which will more than likely come back.

"I expect him to finish strongly and if he wins, the championship could come into play. But let's see what unfolds," said the second generation trainer.

Nunes will not only saddle Stephan Narinesingh's three-year-old colt BIGDADDYKOOL, to be ridden by former champion jockey Dick Cardenas, who is on a brief visit to Jamaica, but the useful HOUDINI'S MAGIC in a maximum field of 16 top class horses.

DaCosta, meanwhile, will mount a four-pronged attack, spearheaded by last year's winner and Horse of the Year SEEKING MY DREAM to again be ridden by leading jockey Omar Walker, along with the 2013 derby winner PERFECT NEIGHBOUR, Oaks winner, A THOUSAND STARS, and also HOVER CRAFT.
