Gilbert aiming for perfect record with Frazsiers Whip

The goals just continue to flow for Xavier Gilbert and his Frazsiers Whip team, which continued their winning streak in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League last Saturday following a 9-0 hammering of Royal Lakes in their cross-zone encounter at Royal Lakes Sports Complex.

The win pushes the title favourites and Zone A leaders to seven straight from as many games while scoring a whopping 70 goals and conceding just three.

Natoya Atkinson was the star of the show in another dominant display from the visitors as she scored four times in the 20th, 31st, 49th, and 79th minutes to cap off a marauding display.

Seventeen-year-old schoolgirl Shaniel Buckley also continued her rich vein of form by scoring a double in the 16th and 60th minutes to extend her leading goalscorer’s tally to 19.

Latoya Duhaney also notched a double, with substitute Omelia Grant also getting on the score sheet.

For Gilbert, the dominance displayed by his girls continues to heighten his ambitions of going through the entire season with a perfect record.

“The objective is to go unbeaten right throughout the season, and that will ensure that we win the competition. I also want these young ladies to get some personal goals, such as leading the scoring charts, and also expose the younger ones as much as we can for the various age group competitions so that they can be drafted into the national programme.”

The relative ease of victories has allowed for some complacency in the team, and Gilbert is warning his troops that continued hard work and focus are key to becoming a seasoned professional.

“I want to see us moving the ball quicker, especially in the opponents’ half. Sometimes, maybe because of boredom, you can see a bit of lacklustre play creep in because we are so dominant, and the girls tend to slack off, but we have to continue to work and keep the girls motivated,” added Gilbert.

Meanwhile, in other results, Cavalier SC secured their sixth win of the campaign after getting by Olympic Gardens 3-1 at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence to maintain their lead in Zone B.

Over at the Paul Bogle High School, Mile Gully CC edged Baptist Alliance 2-1 thanks to goals from Megan Sanchez in the 7th minute and Nickels Thomas in the 22nd. Cinnel Smith got a last-minute consolation for Baptist Alliance.

In the other contested game at Westpow Park, Springers United thumped Real Mobay 7-2. The game between Rangers FC and Vere United was postponed.
