Lane leads the way for Dinthill

Dinthill Technical High's winger Rojae Lane slammed in a hat-trick to inspire his team to a comfortable 6-0 victory over Herbert Morrison Technical in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup second round first leg match at Jarrett Park yesterday.

Lane, 17, got his goals in the 24th, 31st, and 69th minutes to take his tally to six for the season. He says his main objective for the season is to win the daCosta Cup and finish as Dinthill's all-time scorer.

Rushan Parkinson (70th), Martin Beech (73rd) and Tevin Cheese (82nd) were the other scorers for Dinthill.

"To be honest it was pretty easy for me. I just went out and did what my coach told me to do. I'm not being hype or anything but they were like cones to me. I work pretty hard in training so I just came out, put out the work and come out pretty successful in the end.

"For the team, I want to bring them to the finals and help to bring home the trophy for Dinthill this year. Kaheem Parris scored 32 for Dinthill, I want to get more than that. Dinthill's best mark is 34 by Rodave Murray and my aim is to go past that as well.

"It's a pretty good feeling, I like the team's vibe and the way they move. We are one team, one unit. We get along very well on the field, talk to each other on what to do out there so I love playing with them.

Coach of Dinthill, Xavier Gilbert, was impressed with his team's performance and he singled out Lane saying he grabbed his opportunities with both hands.

"Definitely, a very exciting and deceptive player who works extremely hard and is very integral to the way we play and our set-up. Sometimes a little bit hard to control off the field but out there you just have to let him have a go and will give you a 100 per cent ... once you leave him loose he'll punish you and we saw that today," said Gilbert.

"There are still some things we need to work on. We were a bit careless at some stages of the second half when they came at us with a lot of attacks. We took some time to realise, but as soon as we made the adjustments things were just smooth sailing from there," he added.

Meanwhile there was one surprise result in yesterday's second round first leg matches as defending champions Rusea's High were clipped 2-1 by Mile Gully.
