JCF gets $80m from Tourism Enhancement Fund

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has received $80 million from the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, through the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), which will go towards purchasing and repairing JCF vehicles used in resort areas.
Forty-five-million dollars has already been used to purchase ten new vehicles.
The remaining $35 million will be used to conduct repairs to over 100 vehicles which are currently in use.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Tourism Minister Dr Wykeham McNeill said the donation forms part of an ongoing initiative to boost the resources of the island’s crime fighters as they seek to boost the safety of visitors and citizens.
Over the last two years, the TEF has provided over $241 million to aid the JCF in securing additional resources.
This included $25 million, which was provided to carry out repairs to the Negril Police Station as well as $57 million to help fund the installation of a closed circuit television system in Ocho Rios.
National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, expressed gratitude for the funds and the continued support of the Ministry of Tourism.
His sentiments were also echoed by Police Commissioner, Dr Carl Williams who said the police were pleased with the donation.
