Lowly Lime Hall and Molynes in stalemate at Drax Hall

Cellar dwellers Lime Hall Academy and Molynes United battled to a 0-0 draw in the Wray and Nephew/Jamaica Premier League (JPL) yesterday at the Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann.

The two teams are 13th and 14th, respectively, in the JPL with three points each.

Lime Hall have played seven matches, losing four and drawing three. They have conceded 11 goals in total for the season. Their most recent defeat was 4-1 thrashing by Vere United.

Molynes United have played eight games, losing five and drawing three. They have conceded 14 goals in total for the season, with their most recent defeat a 2-1 scoreline against Dunbeholden.

Donald Stewart, the newly appointed head coach of Molynes United, said the result made him unhappy.

“Right now there is one thing that we need to do and that is to score some goals. I am not happy but still grateful that we didn’t lose,” Stewart, who recently replaced Alex Thomas, said.

Valnie Clark, newly appointed coach of Lime Hall Academy, said the task is huge.

“As a coach I want to win. I want to see attractive football, but I am very realistic. This is my second full day on the job, and I am learning about the players and putting in a bit of organisation into the team. I think they have been responding well to it, and as long as that is happening, we will keep fighting. Today we wanted the team to start looking like a cohesive unit, and I think we were able to accomplish that,” Clark said.

He added: “I felt that today, the team showed that they wanted to fight and that they want to stay in this league. As long as we have that mentality we will develop the fortitude to move in the right direction.”

For the most part, yesterday’s game lacked cohesion, and it was difficult to determine which team had more dominance.

However, earlier in the first half, Lime Hall had a few more shot attempts at goal than Molynes, whose first attempt came nearer to the end.

A few chances were being created, but both teams found it a difficult to convert them.

Molynes United’s Jhanni Flemmings went close from just outside the 18-yard box, but the ball was deflected by the goalkeeper.

The second half saw no major difference in performance. The instructions of the newly appointed coaches appeared to fall on deaf ears, and the game continued with little excitement.
