House of Flamez sizzles with fiery flavour
The busy Barbican streets are no match for fiery energy illuminating the atmosphere within House of Flamez. On the cusp of celebrating its first year in business, the oasis, located at the foot of Jack’s Hill in Kingston, has already made a name for itself for offering sizzling flavour.
But there is more to them than the slow-cooked, smoky yet juicy variety. Tasty wings with a spicy or sweet mix, traditional stewed peas, stamp and go, steamed fish, curried goat are just a few of the delights ready to entice and excite your taste buds.
Nedia Moses, the operating manager and one of the directors of House of Flamez, explained that although the food establishment is a baby in the business, opening during the global pandemic has given the knowledge and the experience necessary to survive any adversity, big or small. “The pandemic could’ve been looked at in two ways: a sad story or an opportunity,” she told Food.
The group of directors decided to see the drinking glass as half-full and jumped at the chance to create this incredibly tasty legacy. Moses was so convinced of this delicious dream that she walked away from life as she knew it for 16 years overseas, resigning from her job to return to her roots. She, along with her business partners, have been savouring the sweet ‘food-trepreneurial’ journey ever since.
“When we started out, it was supposed to be just a jerk centre. But we want individuals to have the option of picking up and dining in as well,” she shared. That idea gave birth to the quaintly rustic ambience of the upper and lower deck, inclusive of a courtyard, the assortment of spirited blends at your fingertips are bar none. Just ask for mixologist Asana Mills: her dutty wine, summer bounce mojito classic, flavoured martinis and clitoris mixes will have you buzzing in no time.
Additionally, there are themed food-centric events weekly, and the eatery also facilitates the celebration of any special occasion. The mission is to provide a relaxing atmosphere, wonderful customer service, along with quality food, drinks and music. House of Flamez’s ultimate piece de resistance: come for the great food, stay for even greater vibes.
