Keep fighting breast cancer

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 1995 brings back pain-filled memories of the death of my mother with the same disease. These memories seem to haunt me yearly. I recalled how she yelled and wailed under the despicable disease. While she was alive in an emaciated condition, I dreaded the worst and doomsday.

She could not hide her excruciating pains, while her children could do nothing. The degenerative effects of cancer cause many persons to wonder, ‘Why me Lord?’ The disease can be devastating, to say the least. It can give you bedsores, which cause much discomfort.

All these brilliant soldiers who have played their part in nation-building sometimes go down in this way. It is unfortunate that all persons are not treated the same way due to status and monies; but that, too, can be rectified with time. I see the stories of young, bright, enterprising youngsters who have been overcome this malady. I also see some people who are resilient while under attack and fought with all their power and will. If you’re attacked by this illness, never give up, no matter the circumstances.

Be positive always and seek the Lord, who will deliver you in times of trouble. The mental anguish and sheer pain can destroy your self-belief. But never should you give in to the wiles of the Devil. Be patient always and acknowledge God.
