We should not oppose Malahoo Forte’s statement on new bail act

THE EDITOR, Madam:

With the permanent state of the high murder rate in Jamaica, we should not oppose Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs Marlene Malahoo Forte’s statement on the new Bail Act. I am in total agreement with her in “not giving bail to criminals, who are guilty of murder”. Criminals who are guilty and convicted of violent crimes, without a shadow of a doubt, should not be given bail from lock-ups, neither should they be given parole while in prisons. And they should also be given the maximum sentence or life imprisonment. Is there anything hard to understand about that? Let them suffer the consequences.

How can you say that you are serious and committed in fighting crime if you don’t decide to come to a national and collective agreement to change the constitutional laws pertaining to criminals that are preventing the full force of punishment on criminals and wrongdoers to become active and effective? Are you deceiving yourselves with vain words?

How serious is our country’s gun crime? Check from 1980 -2022 and see how many people have been brutally murdered, gone before their time. Why won’t God let the puss out of the bag, which is the secret behind the gun trade?
