BILLY WHIZZ made short work of rivals in yesterday’s Knutsford Park Cup, making his winning bid from a half-mile out to coast home by five and a quarter lengths ahead of REGAL AND ROYAL.

Carrying a modest 114lb after keeping company with the country’s best three-year-olds, placing fourth in last month’s 2000 Guineas, 2-5 favourite BILLY WHIZZ was simply too light to lose against tame opposition.

Reproducing his form at exercise, BILLY WHIZZ shaved a fifth off the 1:13.3 he clocked last Saturday morning, posting 1:13.2 for six furlongs with Dick Cardenas as Jason DaCosta closed the 10-race card with back-to-back winners.

DaCosta’s IT’S A BOY won the ninth in contrasting fashion, hard ridden by Phillip Parchment to outfinish Cardenas astride BRIDAL BLUSH, winning by a nose, both going off at 4-1.

Michael Marlowe also saddled two winners, GAMBLER and NALA’S BUSHMAN, in the fifth and eight events, respectively.

Anthony Thomas rode two winners, RIDDIM UP and TURNONTHELIGHT, to take a double-digit lead over Dane Nelson in the jockeys’ championship, racing 10 clear, after sharing last season’s title with his rival.

Nelson’s sole win was aboard Marlowe’s GAMBLER, circling rivals off the home turn before going past ANOTHER PROSECUTOR for an easy victory at six and a half furlongs.

Racing continues tomorrow.
