Congratulations, Canon Minott

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The president, Dr Devon Crossfield, and members of the Church Teachers’ College Alumni Association extends heartiest congratulations to Canon Garth Minott, Anglican warden and second vice-president of the United Theological College of the West Indies ,on his election as bishop suffragan of the See of Kingston.

The alumni association notes that Canon Minott’s journey began in the ‘90s, when the Anglican Church introduced a pre-theologue programme at Church Teachers’ College (CTC), Mandeville, that provided opportunity for both spiritual formation and academic qualifications for entry into The University of the West Indies.

Canon Minott’s elevation is a vindication of the relevance of such a programme. As such, the alumni is recommending to the Anglican Church to revisit, as a means of fostering vocations and to provide, through CTC, a certification in the introduction to theology/religious education for both lay readers and the laity.

The alumni further notes that the bishop-elect comes to the high office as a write and publisher. His works includes the following publications:

– Book Review: The ANITEPAM Bulletin, 2004, a newsletter of the African Network of Institutions of Theological Education Preparing Anglicans for Ministry.

– Book Review: Journal of Caribbean History 2010.

– Book Review: Journal of Caribbean History 2012.
