Biden is the best choice

THE EDITOR, Madam:
In my opinion, Joe Biden is much better than Donald Trump in the current US presidential campaign. He is in a good positing to beat his Republican presidential opponent for a second time.
Ageism is backward, narrow-minded and foolish. There are many 80-odd-year-old citizens of Jamaica and beyond who still are highly effective in their jobs. They are doing well in leadership roles, in various post-retirement roles, and whose minds are still sharper than many or most of their younger peers. Locally, a few names that readily come to mind are Rev Dr Burchell Taylor, Professor Errol Miller, Professor Horace Levy, and P.J. Patterson.
Given that Trump has been impeached twice cannot be overlooked. Given all the remarkable achievements of President Biden – the superb management of the COVID-19 crisis to record-breaking job creation numbers – I have every confidence that he will win the 2024 US presidential election by a landslide.
US Democrats should rally around Joe Biden and Kamala Harris more than ever before, as opposed to making a huge mistake of replacing him as the Democratic presidential nominee. His nomination can’t be based on a regulated so-called debate, ageism and misplaced frustration. Most importantly – for the sake of preserving the world’s strongest democracy, and preserving America and the world’s environment – US Democrats should go out and vote in big numbers for Biden.
If, God forbid, Donald Trump wins the next election, the United States will decline in every way, shape and form, beginning with Trump fulfilling his tyrannical promise of going after his perceived enemies.
